Congressman Bobby Scott Endorses Senator Aaron Rouse for Lieutenant Governor
In a statement this morning Congressman Bobby Scott announced that he is endorsing State Senator Aaron Rouse for Lieutenant Governor. The two will formally announce the endorsement at an in-person event today in Williamsburg.
The Lieutenant Governor’s race on the Democratic side is hotly contested and only one of two competitive races on Virginia’s June 17, 2025 ballot — the other being the race for Attorney General between former Del. Jay Jones and Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor.
Rep. Scott’s endorsement of Rouse carries significant weight, as he is the highest-ranking and only federal official from Virginia to back a candidate in the Democratic primary for Lieutenant Governor. Many members of Congress chose to sit it out when it comes to endorsing in competitive primaries.
State Senator Rouse has already secured the big endorsements of State Senator L. Louise Lucas, State Senator Mamie Locke and Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander as well as many other leaders in Hampton Roads.
Rep. Bobby Scott is the highest ranking elected official in Hampton Roads. Rouse now has the support of over 100 elected officials. The State Senator from Virginia Beach also has the support of the most members of the General Assembly and the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus than any other candidate running for Lieutenant Governor in 2025.

“I am endorsing Aaron Rouse for Lieutenant Governor because I trust him to stand up for our community and the entire Commonwealth,” said Congressman Bobby Scott in a statement released this morning.
“With Donald Trump turning our economy upside down and attacking Virginia workers, we need a fighter who knows how to get things done in Richmond. From protecting federal workers to investing in our kids' education, Aaron has proven time after time that he’ll take on Trump and deliver results,” he added.
Scott’s endorsement of Rouse is his third noteworthy announcement of the past seven days. Over the last ten days, Rouse has been endorsed by two major labor unions, the Virginia State Building and Construction Trades Council and Teamsters Joint Council 83.
“Congressman Scott has dedicated his life to public service and fighting for working families. I’m honored to have his support and will continue working every day to make Virginia a place where everyone can thrive,” said Senator Aaron Rouse.
“As Ranking Member of the House Education and Workforce, he helped save over a million pensions, cut uninsured rates to record lows, reduced child hunger and delivered the largest-ever investment in K-12 schools. His leadership is an inspiration, and I’m proud to stand with him in this fight.”
Senator Rouse’s colleague in the Virginia Senate, State Senator Ghazala Hashmi, is the only other candidate running for Lieutenant Governor who has the endorsement from a sitting member of Congress, Rep. Ro Khanna of California. Hashmi also has the endorsements of State Senators Saddam Salim and Jeremy McPike and Delegates Rae Cousins, Mike Jones, Betsy Carr and Kannan Srinivasan among others.
