Speaker Don Scott on Maddow
Last night Virginia’s House Speaker Don Scott spoke to Rachel Maddow on MSNBC about the new emergency committee he formed to analyze the impact of job loss in Virginia. The Trump Administration’s mass firings are all but certain to impact the economy of Virginia.

There are over 160,000 Virginians employed by the federal government. So far, none of the Republicans in Congress have expressed concern about how mass firings of government employees might impact Virginia. Only yesterday did Gov. Glenn Youngkin offer extended comment on the subject.
Yesterday in The Washington Post, Greg Schneider reported that Gov. Glenn Youngkin, “defended the Trump administration’s actions, which disproportionately affect Virginia as one of the top states in the country for federal employment and spending.” Gov. Youngkin was at The White House again today after being named a member of the President’s Council of Governors. The council is “a bipartisan group of state leaders tasked with strengthening state-federal partnerships on key national security, disaster response, and military coordination issues.”
Governors Wes Moore (MD), Josh Stein (NC) and Governor Gretchen Whitmer (MI) are also on the council.
Snow Storm Slams Hampton Roads
By Nathaniel Cline — Virginia’s Hampton Roads region took the brunt of winter storm Kingston as heavy snowfall blanketed the area Wednesday night. Norfolk International Airport recorded 10 inches, while Macons Corner in Virginia Beach saw a storm-high 13 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
While forecasts had called for at least two inches across Hampton Roads and Central Virginia, some areas were hit harder than expected. The rest of the commonwealth received about an inch of snow following the storm’s peak.
As of noon Thursday, Virginia State Police reported 568 crashes statewide, with 49 resulting in injuries since early Wednesday morning. However, officials confirmed no fatalities tied to the storm.
Tim Kelley, a spokesman for VDOT’s Hampton Roads District, said as of midday Thursday, interstates in the areas are in “clear to minor condition” with some snow and slush still visible. READ ENTIRE
