Audio: Unhinged Caller Calls Black Senate Candidate “Boy” and Rants on Abortion, Trans Issues
Black Virginia News has obtained the audio of a phone call of an unhinged man who called the office of District 17 State Senate candidate and Delegate Clint Jenkins. The caller delivered a menacing rant related to several issues including abortion, transgender rights and religion. The caller was focused on Jenkins’ thirty second commercial featuring his daughter.
The call to Jenkins, which contains cursing and becomes increasingly unhinged, can be heard here:

At 1 minute and 30 second mark the caller calls Jenkins “boy” — a racist reference directed at Black men that was common in the Jim Crow South. After an attack ad launched by Republican Emily Brewer last month regarding an almost two decade old matter with no sufficient evidence attached to it, Jenkins’ campaign ran a pointed ad in response to Brewer.
The angry call to Del. Jenkins is reminiscent of a racist call received by then-Delegate Rosalyn Tyler in late 2021 as she ran against Otto Wachsmann, heard below.
At a time of political power shifts as a record number of African American candidates compete on the ballot in Virginia in 2023 this election cycle, dovetailing with a Republican Party featuring Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy using racist southern strategy tactics to gain attention and votes, including a pointed attack on Black history, there’s likely to be more unhinged racist attacks on Black candidates running for office.
🚩 State Senate candidate and Delegate Clint Jenkins will appear with Roland Martin at an Our Voices Our Vote event on Tuesday, October 10 in Suffolk, details below.
Rep. Scott Calls for DOJ Investigation on Missing Voters in Latest Youngkin Admin Voter Registration Problem
After voters were removed from the rolls by the Youngkin Administration in the latest voter related problem/issue/snafu under Youngkin appointee Susan Beals, Congressman Bobby Scott is asking for an investigation by the Department of Justice.
An endless stream of issues related to voting have been reported over the last year and a half. They include voters being removed from the rolls, a lack of detailed answers on how the Youngkin Administration restores voting rights to felons, local Republicans in Chesapeake ending Sunday voting in Black voting locations and Governor Youngkin deciding to pull Virginia out of the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC).

“There must be an immediate investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice into how this happened in the run-up to a very consequential election next month,” Rep. Bobby Scott (D-Va.) told Axios yesterday.

The Virginia NAACP has been challenging the Youngkin Administration for months on their process on rights restoration. The Youngkin Administration hasn’t provided detailed answers on what the process is.
A July press release from the Virginia NAACP stated that, “Secretary James attempted to sidestep simple questions about the restoration of rights process, and failed to address the Virginia NAACP’s demand that the governor: 1) establish a clear and publicly available set of criteria that govern his decision whether to restore an individual’s rights; 2) communicate directly with applicants about all aspects of the process, including the reasons for his decision; and 3) establish and adhere to a clear timeline that will ensure for fair and prompt processing of all applications. The Virginia NAACP renews its demand for these and other changes as the November 2023 general election approaches.”
