At Loudoun Vote March a Focus on Youngkin’s Vote Purge
LOUDOUN, VIRGINIA — “I want to speak directly to my Governor and to my Attorney General, who have said over and over again that it is important to clean the voter rolls up and not allow non-citizens to vote,” Loudoun Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall began.
On the last day of early voting in Virginia on Nov. 2nd, the Loudoun NAACP held a rally and march. It was the last Saturday before Election Day. Before the march leaders held a press conference and the number one topic was the recent news of a vote purge by the Youngkin Administration of 1,600 from the voting rolls. Several U.S. citizens have been interviewed in the media as being inexplicably taken off the rolls.
After voting rights advocates won in federal court in Alexandria on Oct. 25, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned a decision that would have placed those purged back on the voting rolls on Oct 30.
“There was a study done by Virginia Courts and it showed that zero numbers of people who were non-citizens have tried to vote. At this point the Governor has done more damage to citizens than we have citizens who tried to vote in years in Virginia,'“ Randall concluded.
Pastor Michelle Thomas, the President of the Loudoun NAACP, told reporters the march on Saturday was to send a message that the organization fights against injustice and mentioned the recent vote purge.
Loudoun County, Virginia is one of the wealthiest counties in Virginia and in America with an average household income of $174,000.
Thomas mentioned, “the recent injustice of our Governor purging 1,600 voters — 97 of which live in Loudoun,” before the march. Members of the Diving 9, Loudoun attorney and former NAACP President Phil Thompson, Loudoun Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Juli Briskman and former Commonwealth’s Attorney Buta Biberaj also attended the rally and march.
She added that the march has more relevance because, “days before the election you have the purging of 97 of our residents.” Because the election board in Loudoun removed Sunday voting, the Souls to the Polls March took place on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Frankie Beverly Memorial Service Takes Place in Virginia
In Newtown, Virginia this weekend there was a memorial service for singer, songwriter Frankie Beverly (1946-2024).
Frankie Beverly passed away on September 10, 2024 after producing over four decades of music that has been enjoyed at endless family reunions and social events. Though Beverly’s hometown is Philadelphia, his family also has ties to Virginia.
The award winning Norfolk State University Spartan “Legion” Marching Band performed a tribute to Beverly’s music during their halftime performance for NSU’s homecoming game on Oct. 26.
Are Women Voters About to Have Roevember Revenge?
Tomorrow’s Election Day will be the first presidential contest since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
The Court, led by conservative Associate Justice Sam Alito, overruled Roe and Casey in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization on the grounds that the substantive right to abortion was not "deeply rooted in this Nation's history or tradition."
Now the moment has arrived to see what the political impact of the Dobbs decision means at the ballot box. With a historic woman candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, at the top of the ballot, women voters will be a much analyzed part of America’s diverse electorate.
Over the weekend well respected Iowa pollster Ann Selzer revealed a poll that showed Harris winning Iowa. Who was driving the support for the Vice President? Older white women. If that trend duplicates itself in other states it represents a huge problem for Republicans.
When Vice President Harris entered the presidential race the last week of July 2024, a never before seen 105 day campaign then took place. Harris was able to galvanize a diverse group of supporters under the Democratic umbrella. It started with Win With Black Women and has included many other groups. Tomorrow will answer the question: Will women voters be the group that propels Harris in to the The White House.
