VIRGINIA’S BATTLEGROUND HOUSE of DELEGATES RACES! 🎙️ NEW PODCAST EP53 🎙️ LISTEN! Fergie Reid, Jr. and Lauren Burke discuss Virginia’s Battleground races for 2025!
Virginia's Republican Statewide Ticket Appears Unified at Event in Vienna
VIENNA, VIRGINIA — On the sweltering second floor of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, the Republican statewide ticket appeared together on stage for the first time in this campaign cycle.

The historically diverse Republican ticket includes the Lt. Governor of Virginia who is the GOP nominee for Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, who immigrated from Jamaica at age 6 in March 1964 and grew up in the Bronx. The Republicans also feature an openly gay nominee for Lt. Governor and Virginia’s sitting Attorney General, Jason Miyares, the first Cuban American elected to the Virginia General Assembly and Attorney General. The statewide tickets on both sides will feature historic diversity.
But the real issue of the night was: Can the ticket unite? On April 25, Gov. Glenn Youngkin asked the party’s Republican nominee to resign from the ticket over allegedly salacious photos on a social media account. It turned out that what prompted Youngkin to ask Reid to drop out was disinformation. Reid fought to remain and did. After lawsuit threats from Reid and audio of a Youngkin political advisor speaking to Reid, the issue is quiet two months later.
“On the drive over I was telling Alonzo, it’s the unity rally the press is making such a big deal… he said don’t call it a unity rally. Let the press call it a unity rally. Call this ‘commitment day,” Reid first told the audience.

Reid went on to tell the audience “I’m one of you” and noted that he has worked for 40 years for the Republican party in Virginia.
“I’m the guy who stood up to the democrat Mayor of Richmond and said we all have to obey the law,” Reid told the crowd referring to the street protests in Richmond that led to protestors removing the confederate statues of Jefferson Davis and other city-owned statues on Monument Avenue.
The Republican top of ticket Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, who spoke last on a program full of speakers, had a message that included some classic red meat for a partisan crowd and references to what has happened during her last few years as Lieutenant Governor.

“We need the House back. And let me tell you, we need a governor in me — that’s what we need!” Sears said to what may have been the loudest applause.
“You heard the Governor talk about $9 billion in your own money that we've given back to you. That's real money that's going to you. My opponent will tax you. That money is coming right back to the government, if she has her way, but she won't, because you're not going to let her — and she's reckless. We have put money into mental health. We've expanded mobile mental units. We've opened mental crisis facilities so that the whole family doesn't have to be in upheaval. We've given money to childcare so that if anybody wants to come back into the job market,” Lt. Gov. Earle-Sears went on.
Though the ticket stood on stage together at the end of the three hour event, they didn’t do the traditional “raised hands” moment that is typically featured at such events. Though there time on stage was brief, the moment was unthinkable back in April.
Reid was the only one who took questions at the end. He was asked if the ticket would appear together on the campaign trail moving forward. "We’ll be traveling Virginia separately” he answered indicating that covering all of Virginia and reaching as many voters as possible, and even talking to Democrats, would be a priority for his campaign.
