#VirginiaBeach Black Democratic Caucus Created at Key Political Time
VB BLACK DEMS ESTABLISHED AT CRUCIAL TIME
With news of former President Donald Trump threatening to announce he will run for President again in 2024, open talk of President Biden being too old to run for re-election and midterm elections that may had control to a Republican Party that has shifted from being “less government” Reaganites to “end government” Bannonites — Black voters and political operatives on the ground are paying attention.
“Our country and our democracy is currently in a state of emergency. With less than 100 days to go before the 2022 Midterm Elections, the stakes could not be higher. We are sounding the alarm that this election will determine whether our democracy will exist for future generations, or be overtaken by white supremacists and authoritarians.” — Melanie Campbell, President & CEO, National Coalition on Black Civic Participation
The political shift in the U.S. to a more radical and divisive style of politics began in the Newt Gingrich era in Congress and grew stronger in 2010 with the “Tea Party” that focused on limited the power of America’s first Black President — Barack Obama.
In Virginia, where two close races for the U.S. House may decide which party has power in the lower chamber in Congress for the next two years, the race for re-election of Rep. Elaine Luria is winning national attention in particular. Voters in Virginia Beach will play a key role in a district that leans away from Luria in a way that will require her to use every hour of the last 97 days to election day.

LOCAL COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES THE FORMATION OF THE VIRGINIA BEACH DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE BLACK CAUCUS TO FOCUS ON STRENGTHENING RELATIONSHIPS WITH CRUCIAL CONSTITUENCY
“Democrats will fight to repair the soul of this nation. To unite and heal our country. To turn this crisis into a crucible, from which we will forge a stronger, brighter, and more equitable future.” 2020 Democratic National Committee Party Platform.
The Virginia Beach Democratic Committee is proud to announce the formation of the Virginia Beach Black Democratic Caucus. This collective of African-American elected officials, Democratic Party Members, and Grassroots Leaders will focus on promoting the mission and vision of the Democratic Party in the City of Virginia Beach.
The Virginia Beach Black Democratic Caucus, or “VB Black Dems,” the informal shorthand designation, has identified three strategic goals from which we will operate:
First, the VB Black Dems will advocate for legislation that addresses the needs of our community.
Secondly, the VB Black Dems will actively work to identify, train, recruit and endorse quality candidates for elected office who will promote diversity, equity, and inclusion as public servants.
Finally, the VB Black Dems will plan, implement, and execute activities and events that will serve to stimulate voter participation and civic engagement at all levels of government.
“The creation of the VB Black Dems is the initial step in our year-long restructuring processes to empower the core constituencies that are the backbone of the Democratic Party,” stated Vice Chair of Operations for the Virginia Beach Democratic Committee and member of the VB Black Dems, Michael B. Feggans.
