Biden Under Siege Pushes Back with Help of Black Elected Officials
Eleven days after a June 27 debate between President Joseph Biden and former President Donald Trump, a fact remains: Not one member of the 60 member Congressional Black Caucus, the largest in history, has announced that they want President Biden to step aside as the presumptive Democratic nominee in the 2024 presidential race.
Virginia’s Legislative Black Caucus has now followed suit. Today, the VLBC released a statement in support of President Biden and reaffirmed their support for him as the party’s leader. The communication arrives at a time when other Democrats are publicly critical of the President.

Yesterday, it was reported by Punchbowl that Northern Virginia Congressman Don Beyer was quoted in virtual meeting of senior ranking members of the Democratic Party in the House. The discussion was called by House Democratic Leader Jeffries and focused on whether President Biden should step aside.
"Probably the only group I’m talking to that really wants Joe to stay are women,” said Beyer as reported by Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman on July 8.
Beyer was reported as also saying that that President Biden was, “clearly very, very fragile. Fragile physically, although his handshake is very firm. Also really has trouble putting two sentences together. I also believe Kamala is in a great position to win in November, probably a much better position than Joe,” on a call of Democratic session leaders on July 7.
President Biden’s June 27 debate performance has been met with heavy criticism from his own party. Critical remarks have centered on a question that should have been confronted last year: Should Biden continue as the presumptive nominee of the Democratic Party. But Black Democrats are supporting the President.
But time is quickly running out. As of today, the Democratic National Convention is 120 days away and early voting begins in Virginia on September 20 — seventy four days from now.
The New York Times, which has complained loudly about not being granted an interview of the President from The White House, is on a streak of negative reporting that has almost all been negative on President Biden. As the story plays out this week and Biden targets “the elites” who in his view have been wrong in the past, former President Donald Trump and a Republican Party unrecognizable from only 10 years ago prepares to hold it’s national convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Even after the news that several senior members of the U.S. House are saying privately that Biden should step aside, no members of the Congressional Black Caucus are part of the group critical of the President.
One of those present was the ranking member of the House Education Committee in Congress, Congressman Bobby Scott. The Dean of Virginia’s congressional delegation told Politico’s Jon Martin that Democrats were engaged in a “circular firing squad,” and was in disbelief that Democrats were ignoring a “winning message” on policy and instead all Democrats are talking about is, “Oh my god, this man is senile.” Rep. Scott also made it clear that the clear alternative is Vice President Harris should Biden step down.
Congressman Scott’s views are reflected in a statement of support for Biden by the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus.
Today the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus issued the following statement regarding the candidacy of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris:
"As a Caucus whose focus is on the good of the Commonwealth and 9 million Virginians, our decision to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is based solely on shared policy positions, which will continue to grow our economy and build a country with viable futures for our youth.
As policy makers, we need support and allies at every level to truly deliver for constituents across the country. This administration has ushered in historic economic and job growth, record unemployment, and long overdue investments in healthcare coverage and our infrastructure. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have demonstrated their values. They have fought for and won policies that protect real, working class people from exploitative corporate interests in the pharmaceutical industry, overwhelming student debt, and the threats our changing climate brings.
This administration has proven that they care for the millions of Virginians who voted them into office. The person who we elevate to lead us as a nation must have respect for the democratic process that empowers them to make decisions for the good of the people. The only candidate we trust with this responsibility is Joe Biden.
With control of the U.S. House and Senate on the line, the control of committees and who chairs them is connected to the Democrats success on Election Day. Rep. Waters’ sentiment is possibly the result of what she has heard from her working class constituents Black and brown.
“I’m riding with Biden, just like every other damn Democrat I’ve talked to. Get the hell off Twitter (I know that means a lot coming from me ) and get the hell off your phone. Let’s get to work to save our democracy!!” Sen. Lucas who represents Black blue collar Portsmouth, Virginia, wrote on July
Neo-Nazis Must Pay Millions for 2017 Charlottesville Riot
The Washington Post: A federal appeals court on Monday restored more than $2 million of damages that a jury said some of the nation’s most prominent white supremacists and hate groups owed for their role in 2017’s deadly Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville.
A federal judge had previously slashed the $24 million a jury awarded eight plaintiffs in total to $350,000, citing a decades-old state law. But in a unanimous ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ordered that instead of splitting the $350,000, each plaintiff was entitled to that amount, totaling $2.8 million. READ ENTIRE
