Rose Gaming Resort Previews in Dumfries
DUMFRIES, VA — On Monday, October 21, The Rose Gaming Resort in Dumfries enjoyed a “soft” opening event that allowed the first visitors to take a closer look at the much anticipated gaming location in Dumfries.
Though there have been delays, those taking a close look at The Rose on Monday enjoyed a sneak peak at the hotel, restaurants and games on the floor of the resort. Dumfries Mayor Derrick Wood along with employees at the resort showed onlookers the details of a location that Dumfries has never before enjoyed on a vast property of land off I-95 that was once a landfill.
Leader Jeffries in Virginia: Possible Next Speaker of the U.S. House to Visit Battleground Districts
U.S. House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries will be in Virginia tomorrow and Sunday. As a new poll shows a tightening race in Virginia, Hakeem Jeffries, who could become the next Speaker of the House in 2025, will be in Virginia campaigning for Democrats Missy Cotter Smasal in Virginia’s second congressional district and Eugene Vindman in Virginia’s seventh congressional district. The two congressional seats are vital battlegrounds on the map for U.S. House Democrats trying to retake power.
New Poll from Wason Center: Smasal Closing in CD2
A new poll released this morning by The Wason Center shows that the race between Cotter Smasal and GOP incumbent Jen Kiggans is tighter than in previous polls. Sabato’s Crystal Ball, rates CD-2 as “lean Republican” but turnout in a presidential year and Vice President Harris on the ballot certainly impacts close races.
According to the Wason poll, the top issues for likely voters are “inflation and the economy (30%), threats to democracy (20%), immigration (13%), and abortion (10%).”
Win With Black Women Postcard Event for Harris-Walz
ARLINGTON, VA. — At Busboys and Poets in Shirlington, Win With Black Women hosted a Harris-Walz postcard event. The gathering was one of four in Virginia, with the others taking place in Richmond, Hampton and South Boston. With 13 days left until November 5, many Democrats are pushing their volunteer networks and the idea that everyone can “do something” to get out the vote.
Polls indicate a close race in four battleground states as news breaks that former White House Chief of Staff under Donald Trump, John Kelly, speaks publicly to the media about his concerns about Trump’s fascist comments and statements during their time in The White House.
Media organizations are being encouraged to report what “the stakes” are for the 2024 election and the likely policy focus if former President Trump re-enters The White House for a second term.
The mobilization of Win With Black Women, a group that has been organizing and meeting for over four years — year round — sparked the mobilization of several other groups working in support of the Harris-Walz campaign and sounding the alarm against Project 2025 and President Trump.
JD Spain, Sr., who is running for the Arlington County Board, is on the ballot along with Vice President Harris and Congressman Don Beyer. Though Arlington is certain to support the Harris-Walz ticket and other Democrats, the greater concern nationally for Democrats is how close the polls are around the nation.
