C’Ville Oracle: “We Live in the Post-factual Era”
Trump and Vance Lean Into white nationalist Racist “Great Replacement Theory.” After days of back-and-forth regarding an unfounded slur by former President Donald Trump said during a debate he lost to Vice President Harris on Sept. 10 regarding Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio, Professor Larry Sabato appeared on CNN to speak on the state of the presidential race.
“Partly because of Trump we live in the post-factual era,” said the University of Virginia Professor on September 14. Sabato was commenting on the lies spread against Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio by former President Donald Trump. They were repeated by his running mate JD Vance in the “spin room” after a ringing round of immediate conventional wisdom on the left and right indicated Trump lost the debate.
Trump and Vance are trying to keep immigration front and center in the presidential race no matter what the facts are in any given situation. Several recent polls show that Vice President Harris is ahead of Trump in key swing states and in a national poll, but by only one or two points and within the margin or error.
“Facts no longer matter, they don’t matter. Whatever you can say whatever you can take in — even if you evidence that it isn’t true and it was made up — it’s OK because it serves a larger partisan purpose,” Sabato added on CNN this weekend. This morning Vance was on Meet the Press and CNN and repeated the same slurs against Haitians he had days before, citing only hearsay. The Sheriff in Springfield and the Mayor or Springfield pushed back hard on Vance saying his talk was dangerous after bomb threats came in.
As former President Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance attempt to keep the conversation on immigration with only 51 days left until Election Day and right before early voting begins, the desperation in their strategy is focused around fear brought on by misinformation and disinformation.

Never Forget: #OnThisDay On September 15, 1963
#OnThisDay in 1963, members of the Ku Klux Klan bombed the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, and killed four girls: Denise McNair, 11, and Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Wesley and Carole Robertson, all 14. Collins’ younger sister, Sarah, was blinded by the blast, which also injured 22 others. That same day, police shot and killed 16-year-old Johnny Robinson.
The bombing became a turning point in the civil rights movement. On the same day of the murders, James Bevel and Diane Nash began the Alabama Project, which grew into the Selma Voting Rights Movement.
