Seven Voters Sue in #VA04 as Votes are Counted #FederalLawsuit
SEVEN VOTERS SUE. 🚩 download below | As the counting of votes continues in Richmond at the end of a super-fast seven day firehouse primary to select a Democratic nominee for Virginia’s fourth congressional district, seven voters have filed a federal lawsuit against the process. The lawsuit is an amended complaint that adds six voters to the original lawsuit filed on Dec. 16.
Their lawsuit cites the lack of access to polling locations on Dec. 20 in a large southeastern portion of the fourth district. It also points out the lack of early voting, voting by mail and the denial of voting rights to active military personnel. One of the plaintiff is Tavorise Marks who was a candidate on the ballot for the Dec. 20 primary. The other voters filing suit as plaintiffs are Tamia Douglas, Tina McCray, Julie Pope, Richard Walker, Jamale Pope and Paul Goldman.
As a small group of volunteers worked continuously to count over 26,000 votes late in the evening in a small conference room at Democratic Party headquarters in Richmond, many anticipate a result that will demonstrate that the two polling places in Richmond were the decisive factor in the Dec. 20, 2022 firehouse primary.
There were eight polling locations set up in total in the fourth district firehouse primary contest between candidates Joe Preston, Jennifer McClellan, Joe Morrissey and Tavorise Marks. The lawsuit states there were no voting location in Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Emporia, Greenville, Hopewell, Prince George Sussex or Southampton which disenfranchised those voters.
