State Senator Lamont Bagby is Elected Chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia
RICHMOND — Today in Richmond, State Senator Lamont Bagby, and current Chair of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus, was elected Chair of the Democratic Party of Virginia.
“I am honored to be elected as the new Chairman of @vademocrats. Ahead of critical elections this November and beyond, we must continue to champion a bold vision that prioritizes the needs of families, strengthens our communities, and safeguards our freedoms. Let’s get to work,” wrote the Senator on social media after his victory.
Sen. Bagby received close to 70 percent of the 300 plus voters that make up the Virginia Democratic Party’s Central Committee. Josh Stanfield, the executive director of Activate Virginia and a member of the Yorktown Democrats and Zachary Pruckowski, the 10th congressional district Chair, also ran for the position.

At a recent candidate forum, Senator Bagby confirmed that he would not continue as Chair of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus if he was elected party chair. A reception for the outgoing chair, Susan Swecker, took place in Richmond last night. Swecker held the position for ten years.

Last month, Congress passed its Concurrent Budget Resolution for Fiscal Year 2025 (H. Con. Res. 14), setting revenue and spending targets for the next decade. The resolution outlines $1.5 trillion in gross spending cuts and $4.5 trillion in tax reductions between FY2025 and FY2034, along with $500 billion in unspecified deficit reduction. READ ENTIRE
