Rep. Bobby Scott’s Well Attended Town Hall in Newport News
Over 250 people attended a town hall by Rep. Bobby Scott last night at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Newport News. Much like the other events held by members of the Virginia congressional delegation, social security, federal cuts to popular programs related to child care and the overall chaos brought on by President Trump was asked about.
Many of the town halls across the U.S. have been packed. The Scott town hall last night in Newport News was very well attended. Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones and former Hampton Mayor Donnie Tuck were in attendance along with many other local elected leaders.

After the Trump Administration Kidnapped Kilmar Abrego Garcia, Trump is Now Talking About Doing the Same with Americans
MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2025. In what many legal analysts regard as the start of a “constitutional crisis,” in America, President Trump continues to ignore the U.S. Supreme Court’s April 10, 9-0 decision that “instructed the government to take steps to return a Salvadoran migrant it had wrongly deported to a notorious prison in El Salvador,” as described by the New York Times.
Yesterday in the Oval Office, Trump casually said he would consider sending “homegrown” citizens to El Salvador. Through the mouth of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, the Trump Administration has already affirmed they have no interest in due process regarding who they alone deem — with no evidence presented — as a candidate to send to kidnap and send to another country.
The kidnapping of Kilmar Abrego Garcia was followed by the news that Andry José Hernández Romero, 31, a gay barber who fled Venezuela, was deported on March 15. When asked about due process two weeks ago, Miller was his typical unhinged self.
“They have the temerity to say that every single invader that Joe Biden let in should get their own individual judicial trial before they’re deported,” Miller said on Fox News on April 2.
“One at a time. Each one. A million-dollar trial in front of a communist judge to decide whether or not we can send them home,” Miller added. Even Trump supporter Joe Rogan jumped ship when the news of Andry José Hernández Romero was reported.
No actual evidence has been presented that Kilmar Abrego Garcia or Andry José Hernández Romero have been involved in crimes either in the U.S. or anyplace else. The moment comes down to the central question of who will stand up to Trump and who will go along with his lack of due process and long-predicted authoritarian practices.
So far, all of Virginia’s Republicans have been quiet. With Virginia and New Jersey hosting statewide races and races for the House of Delegates in Virginia, these issues are certain to come up.
A timeline of two dates less than 100 days into Trump’s second term.
March 12, 2025
ICE agents stop Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who has never been charged with a crime, and claim his “withholding of removal” status has ended. The Trump Administration claims Garcia is a member of MS-13 but has provided no evidence that’s true. Trump has designated MS-13 a “foreign terrorist organization” in an effort to exert unlimited deportation authority.
March, 15, 2025
Kilmar Abrego Garcia and Andry José Hernández Romero are sent to an ICE detention facility in La Villa, Texas, and then sent to El Salvador on March 15 along with 260 others. The Trump Administration refused to reveal the names of all of the individuals they have sent to El Salvador. Both Kilmar Abrego Garcia and Andry José Hernández Romero are being held at CECOT, a prison that can hold 40,000.
