Rouse in Richmond

RICHMOND, VA — On the first day of session the 2023 General Assembly session, there were few surprises. Gov. Glenn Youngkin and House Republicans focused on abortion, Democrats announced an agenda tempered with the reality that the GOP is in control of the House of Delegates. Democrats in the Senate focused on their newly minted incoming colleague: Sen-Elect Aaron Rouse.

Rouse’s victory means Democrats will control the Virginia State Senate 22-18. Though the victory was less than 400 votes, Rouse’s win is a sizable advantage for the agenda Democrats are planning going into the 2023 election year. A few images of Rouse’s first day in Richmond.
