Michael Feggans is #1 in Fundraising, Wexton Not Running, A Black Billionaire's Memoir, Casino Leaders Meet Public Tonight in Richmond

House Distict 97 candidate and Air Force veteran Michael Feggans has led a vigorous campaign.

Feggans raises $633,000 from July 1 and Aug. 31. Air Force veteran Michael Feggans (D), who is running against Karen Greenhalgh (R) in House District 97, has raised the most amount of money for the last filing period which covers July 1 to August 31. Feggans raised over $633,000.

Feggans is in one the key races for the House of Delegates in a swing seat that is one of the seats that will likely decide control of the Virginia House in 2024 and 2025, along with:

HD82: Kim Pope Adams (D) vs. Kim Taylor (R)
HD57: Susanna Gibson (D) vs. David Owen (R)
HD21: Josh Thomas (D) vs. John Stirrup (R)

…among other close contests. All 140 seats in the Virginia House and Virginia Senate are on the ballot on November 7.

Sheila Johnson: The First Black Woman Billionaire in the U.S. — Has a New Book

The CEO of Salamander Hotels and Resorts and co-founder of BET, Sheila Johnson, has a new book. The memoir is entitled Walk Through Fire.

Johnson held a book event at the Salamander in Middleburg, Virginia on September 16. She has had a long storied career in business and Salamander Resort is a much loved location of many in Virginia. Johnson is married to recently retired Arlington County Circuit Court Judge William T. Newman. Johnson is also the team president of the WNBA's Washington Mystics.

Richmond Casino Meeting Tonight

There will be an event tonight at 6p.m. featuring the CEO of Churchill Downs and the CEO of Urban One. The casino referendum will be on the ballot in 50 days. Early voting starts in Virginia this Friday, September 22.

Please join us for the Fall Candidate Forum tonight to hear directly from candidates running for local and state offices on how they will prioritize issues affecting Black and other people of color in Arlington if they are elected.  

During this year’s General Election on November 7th, voters will elect members to various offices representing Arlington. This structured and moderated event will help inform community members where the candidates for contested races in the General Assembly and County Board stand on issues such as criminal justice, housing, education, economic development, and community engagement.

The Fall Candidate Forum will take place after our monthly General Membership Meeting starting at 6:30 pm. We look forward to seeing you at the forum and at the polls during early voting or on Election Day, November 7th!
