McQuinn, Youngkin at #TyreNichols Vigil in Richmond #Virginia

RICHMOND, VA — On Monday (Jan. 30) evening at Abner Clay Park in Richmond, a prayer vigil was held by various sectors of the Richmond community to express condolences to Tyre Nichols and his family. The other goal of the vigil was to unify all the sectors in the communities around Richmond, including law enforcement.
In attendance were Governor Glenn Youngkin, Del. Delores McQuinn, members of the Richmond City Council, several law enforcement officers from nearby jurisdictions.
Over the weekend there were vigils in Hampton and Norfolk in memory of Tyre Nichols. The events also opened up a way for members of the community to discuss the events in Memphis and talk about what to do next on the seemingly endless problem of police misconduct.
The murder of George Floyd in 2020 sparked intense protests across the U.S. This time, after the killing of Tyre🌹Nichols in Memphis, there’s been a calmer reaction because five police officers were immediately fired and a sixth has now been placed on administrative leave.
Many argue that including law enforcement at vigils after a viral police brutality episode makes no sense. Others argue that law enforcement needs to be engaged in discussions to stop the problem. Tonight’s vigil went out of the way to include police officials many of whom are not happy about being judged alongside bad actors who they say make all police look bad.
