He also shot his grandmother before the massacre. She remains in the hospital.

Sears, who served in the U.S. Marines, famously posed with an assault weapon in a flyer during her 2021 campaign for Lt. Governor. Uvalde is a Hispanic-majority city of 15,000 in the South Texas near the Mexican border.
