LG Sears on #Education, Documentary on the 2019 Scandals in #Virginia? Black Pol Keeps It Real at #NN22
☀️ LT. GOVERNOR SEARS ON EDUCATION. “We’re not going to let people destroy what we’re doing here in America.
But we're not going to let people destroy what we're doing here in America, because that's what ultimately they are hoping for,” Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Sears said during a TV interview on Aug 19.
LG SEARS: “If you say that Madison was not the father of the Constitution, then what you're saying is that the Bill of Rights don't really mean anything because he is pretty much the father of the Bill of Rights as well, because the Bill of Rights that America enjoys was first written from Virginia's Bill of Rights. Madison was the one who brought that in,” Lt. Gov. Sears added. Click here to view the entire interview.
VIRGINIA PANEL AT NETROOTS. The annual Netroots Nation #NN22 conference featured a five person panel discussion on the “lessons” for Democrats after they lost the Governor’s mansion to Republican Glenn Youngkin in 2021. Featured on the panel were Virginia State Sen. Jennifer McClellan and consultant Jamaa Bickley-King. Both kept it real in their comments on what went wrong of their party.
Republicans also won the majority in the Virginia House of Delegates. At 12 minutes into the discussion Bickley-King offers a candid and blunt assessment of what happened to Democrats in 2021. At 54 minutes, a question is asked from the audience on how campaign money is spent and Sen. McClellan provides a candid answer. The discussion runs over an hour.
DUKKKE? After Duke University issued several apologies — straight from then-Duke President Richard Brodhead — in the wake of the Duke Lacrosse false allegations scandal, it’s fascinating to watch the difference in reaction over three years regarding two prominent Black male graduates of Duke accused in 2019. 🎥 It appears a larger documentary project is the likely the next step in fully revealing the truth of what happened in Virginia politics in 2019. The recent news that the FBI has been asking question is noteworthy. | Associated Press | Washington Post
Former Duke basketball player Corey Maggette and former Lt. Governor Fairfax were instantly assumed guilty from an allegation in the media and by Duke University in 2019. Fox Sports removed Maggette from television for a time. Duke removed Fairfax from their Board of Visitors. But over three years, no charges or evidence has been presented or uncovered and the accuser who made headlines in 2019 has disappeared. Imagine your name next to the word “rape” in a New York Times headline. There is a deep historic connection to false allegations against Black men and boys in America over 400 years.

Clearly Lt. Governor Sears shouldn't be teaching history, nor should anyone in the Republican Party decide which "facts" to uphold. It was George Mason who was the principal author of Virginia's Declaration of Rights. James Madison is called the Father of the Constitution for his contributions to that document, and especially for his support of it via his writings in the Federalist Papers, ensuring its passage. And yes, George Washington is considered the Father of our country, but should that extremely easy question actually be on the SOL? Shouldn't we be challenging the students?
