In a tragic night where five people where shot at 2 a.m. outside of a restaurant on Granby Street in downtown Norfolk, Va., a 25 year old journalist for The Virginian-Pilot lost her life.
On March 13 Sierra Jenkins turned 25. She had just moved in to her first apartment with the help of her father. Jenkins was caught in the crossfire during an argument outside of Chicho’s Pizza Backstage. A second person, Devon Harris, 25, of Portsmouth, was pronounced dead at the scene. Jenkins died shortly after arriving at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Three others were shot in the incident but survived. Jenkins was out with a friend who was visiting from out of town.
“Sierra was a bright and talented woman with so much going for her. Her passion for journalism was undeniable and our community is better because of her reporting. Sierra was funny and energetic and full of enthusiasm. We are absolutely heartbroken," said Kris Worrell, editor-in-chief of Virginia Media.
Police have not yet apprehended the person who pulled the trigger. Police are requesting that anyone with information about the shooting contact the Norfolk Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or submit a tip through the mobile app P3Tips.
