Gov. Youngkin Again Confirms Support for Trump’s Mass Firings
“Let me just begin with the fact is that I don't believe that the federal government downsizing is wrong, and in fact, we need to press forward and drive efficiencies in our federal government, and as a result, in driving those efficiencies, I do expect that some Virginians will lose their jobs and that's why it's so important that we provide alternative, alternative opportunities for them,” — Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Feb. 24, 2025, McLean, Virginia
“I do expect that some Virginians will lose their jobs.” Gov. Glenn Youngkin confirmed that he backs the cutting of federal jobs as he rolled out a new website yesterday to address decisions likely to lead to massive federal job losses as ordered by the Trump Administration. As news hits on a daily basis that President Trump has empowered Tesla CEO Elon Musk to administrate mass firings, Youngkin, who is at the White House frequently on other policy matters, made clear he supports the move and that Trump needs to “press forward” and “drive efficiencies in our federal government.”

Gov. Youngkin backed the plan for mass firings:
There are over 150,000 federal employees in Virginia. Federal employees make up at least 15 percent of the workforce in the DMV. Despite the data, Gov. Youngkin is supporting President Trump’s decisions on mass firings. Those firings are led by Tesla CEO and Afrikaner Elon Musk. Gov. Youngkin confirmed his support again of the Trump Administration’s decisions. Elon Musk and DOGE in the name of yet unverified “government efficiency.”
The Tesla CEO has sent two e-mails to federal employees threatening to fire them if they did not respond to a question with the subject line of “what did you do last week?” Federal employees e-mailed were to provide five bullet points of work they’ve completed. The exact legal authority of Musk’s role in Trump’s Administration and whether he is an accountable government employee himself is unknown.
Hours after Youngkin’s McLean event yesterday, Tesla’s CEO posted a message on social media that read in part, “subject to the discretion of the President, they will be given another chance… failure to respond a second time will result in termination.”
Few Republicans in Virginia have commented on Musk’s behavior or the plans by Trump that will lead to massive job loss in Virginia. But the few Republicans in Congress around the U.S. who dared to hold town halls over last week’s “district work period” were blasted by their constituents.
Trump’s policies on federal jobs would be a substantial blow to Virginia’s economy and many other states are well. But at the website event in McLean yesterday, Youngkin confirmed his support for the Trump Administration’s mass firings.
Youngkin’s vocal support of job cuts in Virginia are likely to be a blow to Lt. Governor Winsome Sears, who is running for Governor, and the GOP’s chances of gaining the majority in the Virginia House. Jobs and the economy always appear at the top of the polls when voters are asked what concerns them most.
Websites and unconditional support for Trump’s mass firings? Virginia Democrats weren’t having it. Speaker Don Scott has established a bipartisan emergency committee to deal with the impact of federal job loss in Virginia.
Speaker Don Scott Statement on Governor Youngkin’s Response to Federal Job Losses: “Virginians Need a Leader, Not a Career Coach”
Office of Speaker Scott: Virginia Speaker of the House Don Scott issued the following statement in response to Governor Youngkin’s press conference, where he told thousands of federal workers and government contractors across Virginia that if they lose their jobs, they can turn to a website with resources to find employment in the private and public sectors.
Governor Youngkin’s website suggests alternative jobs for displaced government workers including: Janitors and Cleaners, Landscaping and Groundskeeping Workers, Pest Control Workers, Forklift Operators, Sales Associates/Personal Shoppers, Medical Surgical Registered Nurses, and more.
"Virginians don’t need a website telling them how to update their resume—they need a leader who will stand up and fight for their livelihoods, their families, and their communities. Virginians need a leader, not a career coach. Veterans, public servants, and federal contractors across Virginia are facing real fear and uncertainty from the Musk-Trump firings. They’re wondering whether they’ll lose access to life-saving healthcare, how they’ll afford childcare, whether they can keep a roof over their heads, or even put food on the table. Governor Youngkin has it all wrong, he should be working to prevent this crisis, not telling hardworking Virginians to start over in careers that have nothing to do with their expertise."
"If the White House, Congress, and Governor Youngkin won’t step up to protect Virginians and their livelihoods, then we will. We will fight back against these reckless job losses, federal funding cuts, find the facts, and stand up for every Virginian who is being left behind."
On Feb. 23, Virginia Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell issued the following statement on Sine Die of the 2025 General Assembly Session:
“The 2025 General Assembly session has ended, but our fight for rights and economic security is far from over. Senate Democrats stood strong, passing bold legislation to protect federal workers, expand reproductive rights, advance environmental justice, and reduce gun violence. Yet, Virginia faces a crisis—Trump’s federal job cuts are devastating families, and Governor Youngkin refuses to act. Despite Republican obstruction, we secured major victories for Virginians. But the work continues. We must keep fighting to protect our communities, our economy, and our future. Virginians are counting on us to protect the progress we’ve made, and we won’t back down.”
Call for Boycott of MSNBC After Joy Reid’s Final Show
#TVOFF. Last night, MSNBC anchor Joy Reid had her final show on the network. It has been reported by media analyst Oliver Darcy that Joy Reid’s staff was caught off guard over the weekend and were all fired. Supporters of Reid are calling for viewers to turn off MSNBC.
The firings of several MSNBC anchors including Reid, Jonathan Capehart, Katie Phang, Ayman Mohyeldin were a striking move that appeared to mirror the anti-diversity, anti-inclusive moves of the Trump Administration.
New MSNBC president Rebecca Kutler, who took over from former MSNBC President Rashida Jones (a graduate of Henrico H.S. and Hampton University) made the decisions. Former MSNBC anchor Tiffany Cross was also fired for confronting issues directly and criticizing the Trump Administration in a way many at 30 Rock apparently were uncomfortable with.
A joint call at 8:30pm on Sunday night was hosted by Win With Black Women and joined by Win With Black Men. There were 10,000 on a zoom call and an addition 60,000 watching on YouTube as several guests spoke on the issue of navigating corporate media. Reid was the first Black woman to anchor a show in primetime on MSNBC.

Youngkin made his fortune treating people horribly. No reason to expect anything different now. By his standards, most of us are inefficient.
