Former Delegate Jay Jones Announces for Attorney General
In two announcements in Norfolk and Richmond, former Delegate Jay Jones announced he is running to be Virginiaβs next Attorney General.
βToday, with hope for a brighter future for our Commonwealth and our nation, I am proud to announce my campaign for Attorney General of Virginia. As Virginiaβs Attorney General, my highest priority will always be the safety and freedom of Virginia families,β Jones wrote this morning.
Kim Pope Adams Announces Run Again for House District 82 Against Kim Taylor
Democrat Kim Pope Adams, who lost a very close race against Republican Kim Taylor in 2023, will run again for the House of Delegates in District 82. Adams lost to Taylor by less than 60 votes.
There will be many candidate announcements in the coming weeks for 2025 as Virginiaβs off-year elections for statewide offices and the House of Delegates take shape.
This morning, former House of Delegates member Jay Jones formally announced his much anticipated run for Attorney General.
Regarding Kim Pope Adams and District 82, Virginia House Speaker Dona Scott said that, βexpanding our majority starts with Kimberly Pope Adamsβ¦ she understands the everyday struggles of her community β and sheβs committed to making life more affordable for families in the 82nd District.β
Democrats around the country are focused on what the party has to do to sharpen their messaging in a new media world of misinformation and digital platforms that traffic in content that may or may not be accurate.
Virginia NAACP Urges Virginia Beach Council to Modify Charter to 10-1 Voting System
The Virginia NAACP, Nov. 6, 2024: The NAACP Virginia State Conference stands firmly in support of the overwhelmingly positive feedback from Virginia Beach residents regarding the 10-1 voting system implemented in 2022. This system has proven to be a vital step towards ensuring equitable representation and addressing the historical disparities faced by minority communities in our city.
TheΒ survey conducted by the Weldon Cooper Center, which engaged over 2,100 residents, demonstrates a strong consensus: 78% of participants feel their interests are well-represented under the 10-1 system, a significant improvement from the previous voting model. This indicates a meaningful shift toward a more inclusive and responsive local government.
We call upon the Virginia Beach City Council to heed the voices of its constituents and consider modifications to the current electoral framework that further enhance the representation of all residents. The 10-1 system has shown to empower local districts, fostering diversity and accountability in leadership. It is imperative that we build upon this progress to ensure that every voice in our community is heard and valued.
As we move forward, we urge the City Council to prioritize the needs and feedback of Virginia Beach residents, reinforcing our commitment to fair and just electoral processes. Together, let us continue to champion the rights of all citizens and work toward a future where every voice is represented.
