Hippen, Aird, McKenzie Out-Raise Competition
SUSAN HIPPEN, LASHRECSE AIRD VICTOR McKENZIE. The 2023 election cycle in Virginia is full of competition, retirements and unprecedented fundraising totals. Increased competition is also a part of the deal and seat changes and moves by incumbents to new districts because of redistricting has led to a record number of new candidates.
All 140 seats in the Virginia General Assembly are on the ballot this year.

HD96 — Susan Hippen, who is running in a competitive primary with Sean Montiero, Brandon Hutchins and Del. Kelly Fowler is ahead in fundraising. Del. Fowler, who endorsed Hippen, announced on the House floor she wasn’t running then changed her mind and decided to run in HD96. Now Hippen is out-raising a sitting member and everyone else in the race. The retired Navy U.S. Navy Master Chief is known as a hard worker for other candidates and campaigns and now Hippen has been rewarded by grass roots donors in District 96.
