🔥 Formation of Virginia Crusade For Voters
A new statewide organization aimed at boosting voter registration, education and civic engagement has launched across Virginia, with affiliate chapters already established in eight localities.
The Virginia Crusade For Voters (VC4V) has set up chapters in Metro Richmond, Hampton, Virginia Beach, Danville, Lynchburg, Stafford County, Loudoun County and Halifax County, with plans to expand into additional cities and counties across the Commonwealth.
The group says it was formed in response to growing voter apathy, confusion and distrust surrounding election procedures and the political process nationwide.
Its central mission, organizers say, is to reassure voters — and especially non-voters — about the integrity and accessibility of local, regional and statewide elections in Virginia.
“Our members across Virginia are committed to working with hard-to-reach non-voters, encouraging them to become registered, educated and very active participants in every election,” said one of the group’s founders Jesse Frierson said in a statement today.
VC4V is placing particular emphasis on youth outreach, with members working directly with young and first-time voters to help them understand and engage with Virginia’s political system.
Frierson, a leader with the organization, said pairing younger members with more experienced ones is central to that strategy.
“As a politically oriented organization, we fully embrace and highly encourage the involvement of young adults in ways that allow them to utilize both their energies and talents,” Jesse Frierson, a founder of the group, added. “Matched with the experience and wisdom of our more ‘seasoned’ members, such a scenario and cooperation will be of huge benefit to our succeeding generations,” he added.
Attorney Phillip Thompson, a member of one of the organization’s affiliate chapters, said the effort comes at a critical moment for many Virginians weighing whether to vote at all.
“This effort is a Godsend,” Thompson, a resident of Loudoun, said. “I know so many family members and friends who are considering not voting due to their frustration with all the negativity about voting in today’s news, and the lack of tangible results for our communities. With the development of VC4V, I feel both invigorated and eager to get all my family members and friends actively involved with the Virginia Crusade For Voters. We need this organization.”
Organizers say they intend to continue expanding VC4V’s footprint into additional metropolitan areas and counties in the coming months.
