Norfolk Republicans Support Butler for Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Race
In an email on May 30 described as “an important Message from the Norfolk GOP,” Republicans in Tidewater announced their support for John Butler for Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney.
Butler is running against incumbent Ramin Fatehi. Fatehi has the support of Rep. Bobby Scott and Virginia House Speaker Don Scott.
“I’m writing you not as a Republican — but as your neighbor here in Norfolk. The Norfolk GOP Executive Committee, with approval from the Virginia Republican State Party, has voted to support John Butler for Commonwealth’s Attorney in the upcoming Democratic Primary on Tuesday, June 17,” the email read in part.
Typically, Commonwealth’s Attorney races are not hotly partisan but an endorsement by the Norfolk GOP may indicate a more punitive approach to justice issues.

From Bethesda, Maryland, to Atlanta, Georgia, across New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Denver, and more than 2,000 other cities and towns nationwide, tens of thousands of Americans turned out Saturday in unified protest Donald Trump’s military parade, his 79th birthday, and what they described as his authoritarian leadership. In many cities, demonstrators carried signs and photos of former President Barack Obama — a visual rebuke of Trump, who has frequently lashed out at his predecessor. Some participants called Obama a symbol of the democratic ideals they believe Trump is working to dismantle.

Jamie Raskin of Maryland asked, “So what do you say, Philly? Are you ready to fight back? Do you want a gangster state, or do you want free speech in America?” Read entire.
