Eastern Shore: Ms. Sharpe's Food Stand + Black River Food Truck
EXMORE, VA — 🌽 Keep an eye on the side of the road as you drive on Route 13 through Exmore. Yes, you’ll inexplicably see “Dixieland” at right at the Virginia-Maryland state line — but you’ll also see several Black owned businesses along the way. This post will highlight two of them — both are food related.
🍗 In early September, Black Virginia News stopped in Exmore, Virginia. The first stop was Ms. Sharpe’s Food Stand and the second a few feet away was the Black River Food Truck. We’re very glad we took the time to check both businesses out. For Black River Food Truck, you can call in orders beforehand if you’re in the area at 757-709-2111. They serve fish, chicken, burgers, BBQ and so much more.
Both were located across from each other at Route 13/Lankford Parkway and Occohannock Neck Road in Exmore, Virginia.
🍑 BLACK RIVER FOOD TRUCK IS A GEM. The good news is that the ladies slam you with way too much food. One fish dinner or lunch meal is likely to last you at least a few days. Pictured above is the contents of only one order. We made five meals out of it over a few days. 🐷 🍎 🧅 Yes those are collard greens and they were glorious.
🍅 MS. SHARPE’S FOOD STAND. The food stand is a fully stocked vegetable stand that (on this day…) was across from the Black River Food Truck on the day we stopped, the food stand is likely a regular fixture in that location. Ms. Sharpe was friendly and engaging and her produce was quite extensive.
August was Black owned business month but here at Black Virginia News every month is Black owned business month. Small and local businesses are an essential part of what keeps local communities thriving and we will regularly give attention to them big and small. Enjoy the photos below.
