WESTERN HENRICO — The lines on the Saturday before Election Day were out the door and ran down sidewalks and streets at a number of polling places around Virginia. Saturday, November 2nd was the last day of early voting in Virginia. The last day of voting in the 2024 election will be Election Day this Tuesday, November 5th.
In Henrico, Virginia there’s not only the close presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, there’s also a competitive congressional race between Democrat Leslie Mehta and longtime incumbent Rob Wittman. Wittman refused to debate Mehta during the campaign.
On November 1, Virginia enjoyed a record in-person early voting turnout:
With new registrations high around the U.S. a demographic that will be closely watched as the election day results come in is women. The 2024 presidential election is the first since the U.S. Supreme Court decision on June 24, 2022 striking down Roe v. Wade. The Dobbs decision is on the ballot in the minds of a many voters headed to the polls.

The Legal Games Begin
In Waynesboro, Virginia a recent lawsuit was filed against Virginia's Department of Elections.
According to the News-Leader, “a hearing was held on the counter lawsuit Tuesday, when a former commissioner of elections testified the case could have ‘cascading effects’ on Virginia's election. The ramifications could include delaying Virginia’s votes in the presidential election, Congress refusing to seat Virginia’s federal representatives, and leaving Virginia open to election challenge lawsuits if the state certifies the vote without Waynesboro.”
Legal games are expected to be a big part of the aftermath of the 2024 elections. In some states, elections officials organized their legal strategy over the last four years to drive the “big lie” that there was an unproven issue with the election process. So far, the only “issue” arose as a result of former President Donald Trump insisting that the election was “stolen” after he lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.
In Virginia, the Department of Justice sued the Youngkin Administration after they purged 1,600 people from the voting rolls. A federal judge order the individuals be placed back on the rolls only to have the U.S. Supreme Court overturn the decision.
