➡️ LEADER SCOTT IS WINNING BIG IN COURT. On March 27, Virginia Lawyers Weekly reported the fifty largest million dollar settlement awards recovered in civil court during 2022. The annual list “covers the largest settlements reported from across the commonwealth during 2022.”

Attorney and Virginia House Leader Don Scott was on the team in three of the top ten cases in Virginia:

#3 - $15 million for a motorcycle crash case
#5 - $11 million for a high speed police chase case
#9 - $5 million for a wrongful death auto accident case

Top trial attorney: Leader Don Scott

This easily makes Don Scott one of the top trial attorneys in Virginia along with his partners. To make the Virginia Lawyers Weekly mega list: 1. The settlement must be for at least $1 million, 2. The settlement must have been reached in 2022 and 3. The settlement had to have taken place in Virginia or had strong Virginia ties.

➡️ JUDGE CAUSEY. In Richmond on April 6, Central Virginia Legal Aid Society attorney Doris Henderson Causey took the oath of office to serve on the Virginia Court of Appeals. The high court makes decisions on the rulings of lower courts.

April 6 in Richmond: Causey is sworn in as a Judge for the Court of Appeals of Virginia

As reported in the Richmond Free Press in 2021 by Jeremy Lazarus, on the Virginia Court of Appeals: “Of the 10 sitting judges listed on the court’s website, nine are white and only three are women, including the lone African-American, Judge Mary B. Malveaux of Henrico County. In a historic first, the Virginia Court of Appeals will have five Black members reviewing lower court decisions.”

➡️ DEL. JENKINS AND SEN. JENKINS COULD MAKE HISTORY. Delegate Keith Jenkins is running for the Virginia Senate in the new Senate District 17. His wife, Suffolk School Board member Karen Jenkins is running for the new House District 89. If both win they would make history pointed out Fergie Reid at 90for90.

“If Karen Jenkins becomes the Delegate-elect from new HD 89, & Clint Jenkins becomes the Senator-elect from new SD 17, they will be the 1st husband & wife to serve contemporaneously as elected legislators in Virginia history,” Reid wrote yesterday.

➡️ Candi King and her husband Josh King may be headed for history as well:

➡️ NO JUSTINS NO PEACE. MAYOR WOOD SHOUTS OUT JUSTIN JONES.

Yesterday in Tennessee, State Representative Justin Jones was re-instated as a member of the Tennessee General Assembly after he and fellow State Representative Justin Pearson were expelled last Friday. The move by Tennessee Republicans made nation news as Jones and Pearson were punished for protesting the recent murders of six people at The Covenant School near Nashville, Tenn.

Dumfries, Va. Mayor and Dyvine BBQ owner Derrick Wood wrote an IG post on Jones. Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax witnessed the history up close of Jones being sworn-in yesterday on the steps of the Tennessee State Capitol.

Will Pearson be sworn-in and reinstated this week as well?
