Thousands Attend Rep. Beyer Federal Job Fair in Alexandria
With the Trump Administration undertaking mass layoffs across the federal government the impact on Northern Virginia is substantial. At a job fair on May 3rd for federal workers and contractors hosted by Rep. Don Beyer at George Washington Middle School in Alexandria was packed.

“While Virginians look to the Governor for leadership, he once again spent his platform kissing up to Trump and justifying his devastating cuts to our federal workforce. He even carried the President’s water on these ill-conceived and impulsive tariffs that are driving up costs for everyday Virginians,” said Virginia Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell in a statement on May 2.

Of the many tables at the job fair, potential employers present included Google, Northam Grumman, Fairfax County, Washington Metro and several local police agencies.
Sheryl Lee Ralph Will Be Special Guest at Norfolk State Graduation
Norfolk State University will celebrate its May commencement on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 9 a.m. in William “Dick” Price Stadium on the NSU campus. Over 600 graduates will receive diplomas. A highlight of the event will be the appearance of special guest Sheryl Lee Ralph—an acclaimed actress, producer, activist, and author.
With a career spanning film, television, and theater, Ralph was recently honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the television category. She currently stars as veteran teacher Barbara Howard in ABC’s award-winning series Abbott Elementary, a role that earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

NewDEAL Rising Stars Announced
On May 2, Virginia Delegate Michael Feggans was named one of 19 new members of the NewDEAL (Developing Exceptional American Leaders), a selective national network of innovative Democratic state and local elected officials.
Del. Feggans joins a group of approximately 200 leaders nationwide who have been selected from more than 2,200 nominations over NewDEAL’s 14-year history. Members are recognized for championing forward-thinking, pro-growth, and results-driven solutions that address the pressing challenges facing their communities.
Alumni include U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, who joined as a mayor, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who joined as a County Commissioner, and U.S. Representative Jennifer McClellan, who joined as a state Delegate. Current members include fellow Virginia leaders, such as Newport News Mayor Phillip Jones and State Senator Aaron Rouse.
Allen Iverson Classic at the Hampton Colosseum
The 2025 Iverson Classic All-American Game took place at the Hampton Coliseum on May 3. The event hosted by Hampton superstar Allen Iverson featured the nation’s most elite high school basketball talent under one roof. The players included top-ranked prospects Nate Ament, Darryn Peterson, Eli Ellis and Kiyan Anthony.
The annual Iverson Classic is known as one of the most competitive high school basketball events where future NBA stars can be seen and basketball culture takes the center stage.
