September 22: Alexandria to Celebrate Olympian Noah Lyles
The City of Alexandria, Virginia will host a rally and celebration event for their Olympic Gold Medalist and hometown hero, Noah Lyles.
The celebration will take place on Sunday, September 22, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Chinquapin Park and Alexandria City High School at 3330 King Street in Alexandria. All in the community are invited.
Noah Lyles, 27, was born in Gainesville, Florida but after his parents divorced, his mother moved to Alexandria, Virginia. Lyles attended T. C. Williams High School which was renamed Alexandria City High School.
In Paris, France, Lyles won a gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in the 100m and was crowned the fastest man in the world. Lyles then won a bronze medal in the 200m, despite being diagnosed with COVID-19. Lyles’ 2024 Olympic experience ended after his 200m race but he still dazzled the crowd before departing and will wear the crown of “fastest man in the world” for years to come.
Alexandria is partnering with Alexandria City Public Schools and The Lyles Brothers Sports Foundation for the celebration. The release invites, “the entire community to come celebrate our very own Alexandria City High School (ACHS) Hall of Fame Athlete and Olympic gold medalist. The program will include an outdoor celebration rally around Chinquapin Circle featuring the live music, cheerleaders, and (of course) Noah.”
Alpha PAC to Focus on State Races, Campaign Institute
WASHINGTON, DC — At a Sept. 13 reception for ALPHA PAC during the Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference, ALPHA PAC Chairman Dr. Everett Ward told attendees that the political action committee will endorse state candidates next year. Currently the PAC supports and endorses only federally candidates. Dr. Ward also announced that ALPHA PAC will create an institute to train campaign managers.
The PAC’s annual CBCF ALC reception was attended by Congressman Bobby Scott, Virginia House of Delegates member Michael Feggans and Virginia’s historic Speaker of the House of Delegates Don Scott. Speaker Scott has surpassed all other Virginia House Speakers in fundraising — a fact rarely covered in “mainstream” media. Also in attendance were Maryland Governor Wes Moore and Reverend Frederick Douglass Haynes III, pastor of Dallas' Friendship West.
The Alpha PAC has no official affiliation with Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and operates as a completely separate entity. In August, AKA PAC was formed as the separate political arm of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, which Vice President Kamala Harris is a member of. Early voting starts in Virginia this Friday, Sept. 20.
