Virginia Dems Alert AG Garland on Missing Voters With 28 Days Until Election Day
“ALARMING.” 🚨 After a series of voter related so-called “snafus” and “glitches” during Governor Glenn Youngkin’s time as Governor of Virginia, Democrats in Virginia’s congressional delegation have sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland staying they are “alarmed” by the removal of voters from the rolls. They are requesting “immediate” action and investigation. An outstanding question is whether Youngkin’s Administration is removing voters for parole violations.
U.S. Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division Kristen Clarke was copied on the letter to Attorney General Garland from Virginia’s federal lawmakers. Virginia remains the only state where the Governor controls single handedly if ex-felons can vote. What the specific process is for ex-felons to return to the voting rolls has yet to be revealed by the Youngkin Administration.
In 28 days on November 7, voters in Virginia will decide who controls the Virginia Senate and the Virginia House in an election that has implications in the Commonwealth and nationwide.
The letter from Virginia’s Democrats, in part, read: “On October 3, 2023, the Virginia Department of Elections acknowledged that it removed more than 10,000 individuals who have had their rights restored from voter rolls over the past nine months without notice.
This includes an unknown number of individuals with technical probation violations, not new felony convictions, who have been purged from voter rolls without notice after having their rights fully restored.
Early voting began in Virginia on September 22. Youngkin’s political future is tied to the outcome in Virginia’s Generally Assembly elections as Youngkin considers a late run to be the GOP presidential nominee in 2024.

An upcoming Red Vest Retreat is planned (first reported by Robert Costa) in Virginia Beach at the Cavalier Hotel on Oct. 17 and Oct. 18. The event will include Republican donors urging Youngkin to run for President and will be attended by several of the biggest GOP donors.
The latest voter related issue was reported last week as the Youngkin Administration confirmed they removed at least 270 voters from the rolls.
Leader Scott, Feggans, Askew Take Part in Roland Martin Event
Candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates took random questions on education, gun policy, abortion and other issues during a two-hour town hall conducted by Roland Martin Unfiltered and the Virginia House Democratic Caucus. House Leader Don Scott, Delegate Kelly Fowler, HD97 Democratic nominee Michale Feggans, HD94 candidate Phil Hernandez and former Delegate Alex Askew took part in the town hall.
Current House Leader Don Scott took the first questions from Martin and outlined why he believed voters should support Democrats in their effort to take power back in the Virginia House and hold power in the Virginia Senate. Leader Scott, along with State Senator Mamie Locke have emerged as fundraising leaders for the Virginia Democratic Party. Both have raised over a million this cycle and the fundraising numbers continue to grow.
E. Ray Cox, Jr: Family Member of Mass Murder Victim in Virginia Beach Speaks at Roland Martin Event
The mass murder of 12 people on May, 31, 2019 at a government building in Virginia Beach was the second worst mass shooting in Virginia’s history followed only by the April 16, 2007 gun massacre at Virginia Tech that ended the lives of 32 people. The gun massacre in Virginia Beach remains the second-deadliest workplace shooting in U.S. history.
But after all the candles are lit and the “thoughts and prayers” have dissipated a question remains: How are families
Last night, during a town hall in Virginia Beach produced by Roland Martin, E. Ray Cox Jr., the brother of shooting victim Ryan Keith Cox, asked candidates for the House of Delegates whether they would support $40 million in assistance to surviving family members and those wounded. Last night’s event took place at New Hope Baptist Church, which was founded by the late Rev. E. Ray Cox, Sr. Gun violence has polled as a top issue of concern to voters in Virginia.
Below: Roland Martin asked House Democratic Leader Don Scott about $40 million in assistance to the survivors of the 5/31/19 Virginia Beach massacre.
