Energy Ignited by VP Kamala Harris Record Fundraising
“HISTORY IS WATCHING US. THE TIME IS NOW.” A day after the group Win With Black Women hosted a 40,000+ Zoom call of Black women on the night of July 21, Win With Black Men has now raised $1.3 million over four hours during a 25,000+ person call on the night of July 22. Both calls featured an eclectic group of elected officials, activists, business leaders, campaign officials, academics and celebrities.
Over 53,860 people registered for the Win With Black Men call.
The Win With Black Men call on July 22 was hosted by Hon. Michael Blake, Khalil Thompson, Bakari Sellers, Collective PAC Co-Founder Quentin James and Roland Martin.
Three leaders from Virginia addressed the large audience of thousands on the call: Congressman Bobby Scott, Virginia House Speaker Don Scott and Virginia State University Professor Wes Bellamy. The call was broadcast live on YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, X and StreamYard and will likely have an audience of over 1 million viewers over two days.
“Now that Kamala is leading the ticket we don’t have to change the message at all. It’s still jobs and infrastructure and health care,” said Congressman Scott. The Congressman ran down the long litany of problems during COVID under Donald Trump before making the point that Harris greatly benefits from the work of the Biden Administration.
Rep. Scott also mentioned a zoom call that took place earlier in the evening with Virginia delegates to the Democratic National Convention in which the group was unanimously supporting Vice President Harris. The DNC Convention starts on August 19. A formal announcement from the Democratic Party regarding delegate support is likely this morning.
“This reaffirms my faith not only in America but in Black men and the role that we play. We have the opportunity to put an extraordinary personality in The White House — and that is Kamala Harris,” said Speaker Scott on the Win With Black Men call.
Over 17,000 people donated in support of Harris’ effort to become the 47th President on the call. When the meeting ended around midnight over $1.3 million had been raised.
💵 Meanwhile ActBlue reported that over $81 million was raised to support of Vice President Kamala Harris for President. That fundraising broke a one-day fundraising record on July 22.
The enthusiasm and energy levels have been off the chain less than 48 hours after President Joe Biden stepped out o the 2024 race for The White House at 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan spoke on the historic aspect of Vice President Harris’ presumptive selection as a presidential nominee.
Vice President Harris has now become the presumptive nominee as she has secured enough support from delegates previously pledged to Biden to win the nomination for President. In her statement seen below, she noted that, “this election will present a clear choice between two different visions.”
HARRIS AND LABOR
Harris also secured the endorsements from the labor unions AFL-CIO, AFSCME, ATU, AFT, CWA, Stage Employees, IBEW, IUPAT, SEIU, United Farm Workers and UFCW. Even as every organization under the Democratic Party’s large umbrella got in line, the Teamsters released a letter on July 22, stating they would interview the Vice President regarding their endorsement. Current Teamsters’ President Sean O’Brien spoke at the Republican National Convention last week — to the criticism of his own members.
In late 2022, President Biden saved the pensions of over 300,000 Teamsters’ members as all congressional Republicans voted against the legislation that provided the relief: The American Rescue Plan. The Teamsters’ request to interview the Democratic nominee is peculiar since the the Democrats have steadfastly supported union related polices and pushed minimum wage legislation across the U.S. as Republicans have fought against it.
