Star Risen: Maryland Gov. Wes Moore Wins the Attention of the Room at Virginia’s Blue Commonwealth Gala
RICHMOND, VA — At the Virginia Democrats annual Blue Commonwealth Gala last night there was a formally unannounced keynote speaker who took the VIP reception and gala by storm.
Governor Wes Moore of Maryland, long considered to be a future contender for The White House, rolled into the gala alongside Virginia’s Democratic nominee for Governor Abigail Spanberger and won much attention — perhaps more than the main event speaker herself.
After sitting down with Roland Martin on Roland Martin Unfiltered at a large pop-up studio space built in the main hall of Richmond Main Street Station (see the entire show via link bottom), Gov. Moore was then seen taking endless photos and engaged in rapid fire conversation with Virginia battleground candidates in key House of Delegates districts, donors and lobbyists. The Maryland Governor was introduced by Sen. Mark Warner.

Gov. Moore gave several shoutouts from the stage. They included the Virginia Senate's President pro tempore L. Louise Lucas, statewide nominees for Attorney General and Lieutenant Governor Jay Jones and Ghazala Hashmi and of course gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger.
Gov. Moore took a few shots at GOP nominee and current Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears uninviting her to “the cookout.” Given Earle-Sears focus on Moore in the past that was unsurprising.

Regarding Virginia’s nominee for Attorney General Jay Jones, Gov. Moore said, “if there is ever a question about the importance of attorneys general in this moment, let's be very clear this moment, these roles are more important than ever, and Virginia, you've got the right one who's about to sit in this seat.”
Focusing on Senator Hashmi, Gov. Moore then stated, “I know I'm bringing love and blessings from Maryland's historic Lieutenant Governor, Aruna Miller, who says that she will be here each and every day if necessary to make sure that you join her ranks as the next lieutenant governor for the Commonwealth.”
Neighboring Partner and Concern on Federal Jobs
Gov. Moore has campaigning in Virginia before. He sounds like he may return again for this election cycle as well.
“I am so thankful for y'all, because I'm so ready for her [Spanberger] to be my colleague. And I know that people might wonder and question: Why is the Governor of Maryland, down here in Virginia, campaigning on behalf of the leadership team in Virginia? And the answer is, I have two very important reasons why I am down here and why I will keep on being down here to make sure that all these remarkable nominees become the people who will be leading the state going forward. The first is because I'm a big believer that partnership produces progress. And the reality is, is that I need a neighboring partner,” Gov. Moore said from the stage.
“That's not something that I have had over the past two and a half years,” he added.
“The truth is I want a neighboring partner who understands that the way you respond to an all out assault on our federal workers is not by sending People a LinkedIn profile,” Moore added flatly.
He also spoke on being the only Black governor in the U.S. and mentioned historic Governor L. Douglas Wilder. The pace of the evening moved along briskly and the news of President Trump’s unprecedented bombing attack on Iran arrived just after the formal festivities ended.
