WASHINGTON, D.C. — | 📸 | ☕️| 🍩 | There were doughnuts, pictures, coffee and plenty of people. The annual Black History Month Commonwealth Coffee with Virginia’s U.S. Senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, along with Congressman Bobby Scott and Congresswoman-Elect Jennifer McClellan, happened this morning at 8:30 a.m. on Capitol Hill in Washington in the Dirksen Senate Office Building. There was much excitement to see key members of the delegation together with key community leaders in the Commonwealth. A little bird tell us that Virginia’s first Black Congresswoman will be sworn in on Tuesday, March 7.
The annual coffee hosted by the Senators was very well attended as everyone on Capitol Hill is finally completely breaking free of all the COVID restrictions that began in March 2020. This morning, as the U.S. House and Senate turned to a full day of session after two weeks of recess, there were many present who drove up I95 to attend. Last night Virginia State University’s Marching Band played a role in President Biden’s Black History reception.
We won’t say today is the last day of Black History Month. This is Black Virginia News. Every day is Black History Month. Below are 20 images from the event this morning.
