19 Days: Aaron Rouse Event w/ Bruce Smith + Bobby Scott
WASHINGTON, D.C. — 🏃🏾♂️With all the attention going to the firehouse primary to nominate a candidate for Virginia’s fourth congressional seat, the special election between Democrat Aaron Rouse and Republican Kevin Adams has been on the back burner.
But not anymore. There are 19 days to special election day, Jan. 10, 2023. Early voting for the race in underway and in Virginia Beach eligible voters can can vote from 8:00 am-5:00 pm Monday thru Friday at Bldg. 14 at 2449 Princess Anne Road.
At a well attended event to support Rouse, a Virginia Beach City Councilman, for the Virginia Senate, one thing was clear: His race is quite important to Democrats on all levels: federal, state and local. Members of Congress, State Senators and House of Delegates members were all in attendance at a Washington, D.C. gathering last night in support of Rouse.
NFL superstar Hall of Famer and Norfolk native Bruce Smith was present as was Congressman Bobby Scott. Del. Kathleen Murphy and several members of the Virginia State Senate fought heavy traffic on 95 North, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy departed the White House and arrived on Capitol Hill nearby, to attend. Several members of Congress couldn’t attend as a result of Zelenskyy Joint Session scheduling — though Rep. Scott found a way to attend both events.
“If elected, Aaron Rouse will be the Raphael Warnock of the Virginia State Senate. His win would give Democrats a 22-18 advantage and diminish the power of Republican Lt. Governor Winsome Sears, who ran alongside Gov. Glenn Youngkin in a jolting defeat of fmr. Gov. Terry McAuliffe in 2021.”
Sears is likely to break many ties if Democrats have a 21-19 advantage. A 21-19 Senate also turns the Joe Manchin of the Virginia Senate, Senator Joe Morrissey, into less of a factor should the Senate deal with the issue of abortion — which they are likely to do.
Rouse spoke on his blue collar background, attending Virginia Tech on a full scholarship and his mother being grateful that it would pay for his eduction. The election between Rouse, a Democrat, vs. Republican Kevin Adams will be on January 10, 2023 the day before the Virginia General Assembly comes into session.
