The event honored several members of the Richmond community as free food was served to hundreds of people in the community who lined up for blocks.
π A few community members receiving awards were Lt. Governor Winsome Sears, Secretary of the Commonwealth Kay Coles James, Sheriff Antoinette Irving, Henrico prosecutor Shannon Taylor, Rev. Dr. Roscoe Cooper, Rejoice 101.3 FM 990 AM host Gary Flowers, Richmond CBS6 reporter John Burkett, Armstrong High School Principal Willie Bell, Belle Report/Praise 104.7βs Sheilah Belle and Rev. Robert Winfree. Though Cathy Hughes was listed as an awardee she did not attend the event.
The two most interesting booths at Crab & Q were Fobbs Quality Signs and Broken Men Foundation. Itβs rare to see a community group focused on Black fathers.
Director of Virginia Commonwealth University Massey Cancer Center, Robert A. Winn, M.D, was also honored. Here he is below with a few statistics on the Black community in Virginia and cancer.
HISTORIC LT. GOVERNOR, COLES JAMES HONORED. Lt. Governor Sears read from the Bible after being presented her award and then greeted attendees in the large crowd as she departed. Crab & Q was bipartisan with the inclusion of Sears and Coles James. But most people appeared to be interested in community, food and music and not politics. Election day is 41 days away. Early voting in Virginia started last Friday.
There were several health care related booths at Crab & Q and many attendees were seen collecting information from them.
Lines for free food stretched down the street from the start of the event to the end three hours later.
