➡️ In addition to key State Senate and House of Delegates races in 2023 (see updated chart below), there are many important local races. Local elected offices on school boards and city councils are where democracy happens and many vital policy decisions are made. Last night in Dumfries, Va. an impressive group of supporters attended an event in support of Deshundra Jefferson. Jefferson is running for Chair of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.
Supporting Deshundra Jefferson last night were Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan, and Delegate Charniele Herring, Delegate Candi King, Delegate Briana Sewell, Dumfies Mayor and Dyvine BBQ owner Derrick Wood and Occoquan District Supervisor Kenny Boddye, among others.

A historic number of Black candidates are running in Virginia in 2023. In 2024, there will be a record number of Blacks serving in the Virginia General Assembly, including a record number serving in the Virginia Senate. Many were recruited by 90for90’s Dr. Fergie Reid, Jr.
Other facts: Jason Ford, 24, (SD28) is the youngest person ever run for the Virginia Senate in history. Delegate Clint Jenkins (SD17) and Suffolk School Board member Karen Jenkins (HD89) are the first husband and wife to run for the Virginia Senate and House on the same ballot. Ford is facing off against Republican Bryce Reeves, Jenkins is running against Emily Brewer and Karen Jenkins is taking on Baxter Ennis.
