RICHMOND, VA — KINGS OF THE COURT IN WINNING STYLE. 🏀 The number one high school basketball team in America, the undefeated John Marshall Justices of John Marshall, H.S. in Richmond, continue to impress on and off the court.
The team is undefeated with a final record of 28-0. On March 11, the Justices won 91-34 over Radford to secure back-to-back Virginia state titles. The team has not lost a game over two seasons. In their championship game, John Marshall led 51-13 over Radford at halftime. The scoring average for the team this season is 65.5 points a game.
There was something else that stood out before play started on March 11 that many noticed: What the team was wearing. The Justices appeared at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Seigel Center in matching suits. Verrandall Tucker and Virginia’s fmr. Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax teamed up to have the entire team fitted in blue suits and ties, along with the team coaches. Tucker owns DETAILS ON GRANBY, a custom clothing business, at 132 Granby Street in Norfolk. Fairfax came up with the idea and picked up the tab after learning none of the Justices owned a suit. Heads turned as onlookers attending the game prior to the John Marshall vs. Radford championship stared and smiled as the Justices walked into The Siegel Center hours before.
“I have never seen that before,” said a member of the The Siegel Center staff standing at the locker room door as the Justice’s arrived walking in along blue-suited line carrying matching backpacks and black garment bags with the words DETAILS ON GRANBY on one side.
Verrandall Tucker is a member of the famous Tucker family that was among the first to arrive in Virginia in 1619 and what is now Ft. Monroe in Hampton.
WINNING. The team’s standouts vs. Radford were Dennis Parker and Latrell Allmond who scored 17 points each. Senior Jason Rivera had 15 points, Redd Thompson had 12 points and Dominique Bailey scored 10. On top of all that, weeks before their championship game, Justice Coach Ty White was named the 2023 Jersey Mike's Naismith High School Boys Coach of the Year.
Winning and and off the court. Coach Ty White was named high school boys basketball coach of the year last month.
