👊🏽 DEATH OF H.S. PRINCIPAL RIDDICK PARKER 🌹 George Wythe High School Principal Riddick Parker died suddenly on Aug. 19. Richmond School Superintendent Jason Kamras said that Parker died unexpectedly Friday morning while bicycling.

👊🏽 ANTHONY CHANDLER II GOING TO VIRGINIA UNION. Pastor Anthony Chandler announced on Facebook on Aug. 22 that his son Anthony Chandler II will be attending Virginia Union. This comes after former Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax announced on Aug. 15 that all of the Chandler kids’ college costs would be paid for during the funeral of their mother Cedar Street Baptist First Lady Taleshia Chandler 🌹 (1971-2022).
👊🏽 KAINE IS PUZZLED ON DELL. On August 12, Sen. Tim Kaine said after a question to CBS6 on the matter of Richmond Police Chief Gerald Smith and Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney alleging they stopped a mass shooting on July 4: "I've been following it, probably like my neighbors have, like getting the newspaper and reading it every day, and I'm puzzled. I'm puzzled by it. I don't have anything beyond I'm finding it confusing." Might be grand if Kaine spoke on the everyday murders in Richmond that actually occur daily as well.
🚩 Update on the two alleged suspects: Julio Alvarado Dubon was indicted on Aug. 18 for possessing a weapon in the U.S. while being in the country illegally. The second suspect, Rolman Balcarcel-Bavagas, has a plea agreement hearing on Aug. 25. No charges related to a “mass shooting” have been filed so far.
👊🏽 MIGHT SOMETHING IN THE WATER RETURN TO VAB? Yesterday, Virginia Beach music superstar Pharrell Williams tweeted a photo of himself meeting with Virginia Beach council members and executive leadership in New York City on August 8, 2022. Let’s hope this means that Pharrell’s Something in the Water music festival is coming back to the beach. Williams moved the festival to Washington, DC this year citing a “toxic” vibe from the city following the killing of his cousin Donovan Lynch by a Virginia Beach Police Officer. 💸 The festival made $24+ million for the local economy in Virginia Beach in 2019.

👊🏽 A NEW PETERSBURG? Yesterday, Aug. 22, Gov. Glenn Youngkin and members of his cabinet held an event yesterday in Petersburg, Va. along with many elected leaders in Petersburg. Black Virginia News will be writing in detail about the plans but the 350+ crowd of Petersburg community leaders were positive on the upcoming plans. Petersburg, which is the home of Virginia State University, has been in need of economic assistance for decades.
